WHAT WE DO
SOCIAL WELFARE
1. Enterprise Development & Community Development Scheme
i) Enterprise Development
The mission of Zomi Enterprise Development scheme is to give people the tools they need to work their way out of poverty; develop new business and give training to poor women and men who are willing to start their own business. ZWO helps people work their way up the economic ladder, with dignity and pride. With capital, people can start and enhance their own business. They can earn enough to afford basic needs like clean drinking water, better food and education for their children.
ZWO is creating an anti-poverty strategy that is permanent and self-sustaining.
ZWO is able to deliver its services to almost all the areas where ZWO has partners in the world.
We provide help on Finding market Niche, Equipment, Start-up guide, Specific training, Business planning, Marketing

ii) Community Development
Community Development is a comprehensive approach to Economic Development. The process involves managing community change by involving citizens in a dialogue on issues to decide what must be done (their shared Vision of the future), and then get them involved. It is about changing power structures to remove the barriers that prevent people from participating in the issues that affect their lives.
It is the spirit that ZWO’s community development seeks to bring economic empowerment to distressed communities. We take the position that we can no longer remain complacent in response to the challenging needs of brining economic growth and social freedom to create sustainable employment and education, business and entrepreneurial developments and economic opportunities.
ZWO aims to provide service and or programs designed to meet the needs of the community we serve.
ZWO community development aims at making countless human investments that will pay future dividends of children growing up in safe and healthy environments, individual’s traditional neighbourhoods and rehabilitated communities becoming thriving economic centres.
How it will work:
ZWO will form local council to work for the welfare of the community. The local council will find the need and ZWO make the development. All ZWO workers and businesses will pay tax to the council. Local council will have income to spend for the development and welfare of its own society. However local council alone cannot spend the fund without the concern of ZWO.
49% of the business equity share will be given to the local community.

2. Micro-Credit
Aim:
The mission of Zomi micro credit is to give people the tools they need to work their way out of poverty. ZWO helps people work their own way up the economic ladder, with dignity and pride. With capital provided to them, the focussed people can start and grow their own businesses. They can earn enough to afford basic needs like pure water, better food and schooling for their children. ZWO is creating an anti-poverty strategy that is self-sustaining.
Why Microfinance?
In most of the third world countries unemployment is the biggest hindrance to growth. Microfinance of ZWO targets unemployed individuals by helping them to start their own "micro enterprise."
"Micro entrepreneurs" work hard with almost no capital to grow their businesses; they remain trapped in a cycle of poverty. To open their businesses, each day they borrow from loan sharks, who charge as much as ten percent daily, or they pay higher prices to buy goods on credit. Any profit they earn goes to others, leaving them locked in a daily struggle for survival. What they need is capital - a loan as small as £50 at a fair rate of interest. But most banks will not lend to micro entrepreneurs as they lack the collateral and credit history required.
HOW IT WORKS
Micro-credit is based on the premise that people who really need capital have access to financial resources. These are the very people who are denied loans by large financial institutions. The notion that these people are high risk in terms of recovery of loans has been proven wrong by many such programs run all around the world. This is partly due to the fact that the loans are carefully administered and managed by the people in the community. A development officer from the targeted community will be appointed by the ZWO to implement and monitor the project.
The salient features of the program are:
- Development Officer (DO) passes a resolution and approves credit for one or more of its members by an agreement of 80% of its members.
- ZWO Social Organizer will have a close look at the following things:-
- whether the potential borrower is skilled enough to run the enterprise.
- Whether the potential borrower has a business plan or not. This includes market survey and market analysis to find out the exact demand for the product or services that will be provided by the proposed business.
- Whether the borrower has a financial plan for the business or not.
- Whether there is a management plan in place.
- Whether there is a production plan in place or not, in cases where a product has to be produced.
- In many cases some skill trainings will be provided to ensure the success of the proposed business.
- Whether the required legal paper work is completed.
- If recovery schedule is handed to the borrower and the DO
- If recovery process starts.
Another very important aspect of these DO is that he encourages savings to the community member. These savings are then used for internal lending. This is another way of reducing dependency on the outside sources
